Before your first session — read this

A note for {{ first_name|default:"you" }}, before you begin.

Most new Train5D clients feel a mix of excitement and nerves before their first session. That's normal — and actually a good sign.

The nervousness usually comes from not knowing what to expect. So let me tell you exactly what happens, so you can walk in with confidence instead of uncertainty.

The first session is never about performance. There are no tests, no expectations, and no judgment about where you are right now. We start where you are — not where you think you should be.

Here's what new clients commonly worry about — and what's actually true:

Before your first session — practical checklist:

Complete your online assessment — if you haven't yet, do this first. It takes 5 minutes and shapes everything. Take it here →

Confirm your session time — check your booking confirmation email and add it to your calendar. Need to reschedule? Use this link →

Eat a normal, light meal 1-2 hours before — don't train hungry, don't eat a full meal right before.

Hydrate the day before — you lose more water in pools than you think.

Bring a towel and comfortable, form-fitting swimwear — not board shorts. They add drag and make technique harder to observe.

Arrive 5-10 minutes early — use that time to breathe, look at the water, and settle in. Don't rush to the edge.

The one mindset shift that changes everything

Most people approach water with the goal of not looking bad. That goal creates tension — and tension is the enemy of floating, breathing, and relaxation in water.

Come in with a different goal: get curious. Notice what happens in your body when you get near the water. Notice where you tense. Notice your breathing. You're a researcher, not a performer.

That shift alone puts most people 30% of the way there before they even get wet.
